UPB Library Successfully Conducted General Library Orientation to Students

The UP Baguio Library conducted its first face-to-face General Library Orientation after the pandemic to all year level of students of the three colleges namely: College of Arts and Communication (CAC), College of Social Sciences (CSS) and College of Science (CS) on October 9 & 23, 2023 respectively. The orientation for CAC and CS was conducted at the Himnasyo Amianan while CSS was at the 2nd Floor of the University Library. Almost 300 bright-eyed students per college attended each session.

An introduction of the general library sections and services was discussed by Ms. Julieta Dela Pena, the head of Users and Readers’ Services Division. This was followed by Mr. Rojan Paleng and Mr. Bryan Galera’s discussion about the usage of online databases and subscriptions, the library website, and other research discovery tools for electronic resources accessible to UP Baguio students. Lastly, an in-depth explanation of the new online public access catalog of the UP System – TUKLAS – was provided by Ms. Amelia Cendana in the morning session, and by Ms. Jocelyn Dagusen in the afternoon. The program was made lively by conducting short games in between talks that served as reviewers and raffle draws based on student attendance, as hosted by Ms. Eufemia Terre.

The orientation was made possible through the initiatives of library personnel with the help of student assistants who assisted during the entire duration of the scheduled orientation. In closing, Mr. Rojan A. Paleng, OIC of the University Library encouraged students to fully maximize the vast number of e-resources subscribed by the UP System in their academic requirements to give justice for the annual renewal of each database.
