Below are Open Access (OA) databases of electronic books and journals evaluated and selected by the library staff to provide additional sources of information for researchers. Most of the electronic resources you will find in these sites are free and openly available for public use.

A-Z Teacher Stuff

A teacher-created site designed to help teachers find online resources more quickly and easily. Find lesson plans, thematic units, teacher tips, discussion forums for teachers, downloadable teaching materials, printable worksheets, emergent reader books, themes, and more.


CogPrints is an electronic database of self-archived research for which full texts are available. The database includes work in the fields of psychology, neuroscience, linguistics, computer science, philosophy, and biology.

CIA World Factbook

The World Factbook provides information on the history, people and society, government, economy, energy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for 267 world entities.


CORE harvests research papers from data providers from all over the world including institutional and subject repositories, open access and hybrid journal publishers.

D-Lib Magazine

Its focus was on digital library research and development, including emerging technologies, applications, and contextual social and economic issues, and it appealed to a broad technical and professional audience.

De Gruyter Open

An imprint of independent academic publisher De Gruyter, De Gruyter Open publishes and indexes open access material, including 435 journals and more than 100 books, in all major academic disciplines.

Digital Library of the Commons Repository

The Digital Library of the Commons (DLC) is a gateway to the international literature on the commons. Provides free and open access to full-text articles, papers, and dissertations. 

Directory of Open Access Books

DOAB is a joint service of OAPEN, OpenEdition, CNRS and Aix-Marseille Université, provided by DOAB Foundation. Multidisciplinary source of open access books.

Digital Book Index

Provides links to more than 165,000 full-text digital books from more than 1800 commercial and non-commercial publishers, universities, and various private sites. More than 140,000 of these books, texts, and documents are available free.

OAIster is a union catalog of millions of records that represent open access resources. This catalog was built through harvesting from open access collections worldwide using the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH). Today, OAIster includes more than 50 million records that represent digital resources from more than 2,000 contributors.

BioMed Central

BMC has an evolving portfolio of high quality peer-reviewed journals including broad interest titles such as BMC Biology and BMC Medicine, specialist journals such as Malaria Journal and Microbiome, and the BMC Series.

Cambridge Core Open

Cambridge Core is the place to find valuable, useful and inspirational research and academic information. With over 1.8 million journal articles and 46,000+ books, Cambridge Core is the central destination for academic research.

Open Library of Humanities

The Open Library of Humanities (OLH) is a charitable organisation dedicated to publishing open access scholarship with no author-facing article processing charges (APCs). The OLH publishing platform supports academic journals from across the humanities disciplines, as well as hosting its own multidisciplinary journal. 

World Bank Documents and Reports

The Documents & Reports (D&R) site is an official disclosure mechanism for the World Bank Group’s final reports. The repository contains official documents and reports which are made available to the public in accordance with the Bank’s Access to Information Policy to better share the institution’s knowledge base.

World Development Indicators (Databank)

(WDI) is the primary World Bank collection of development indicators, compiled from officially recognized international sources. It presents the most current and accurate global development data available, and includes national, regional and global estimates.

Research Papers in Economics

A collaborative effort of hundreds of volunteers in 102 countries to enhance the dissemination of research in Economics and related sciences. The heart of the project is a decentralized bibliographic database of working papers, journal articles, books, books chapters and software components, all maintained by volunteers.


WikiArc (The Wiki Archaeological Information Resource) collects and publishes links to related open access resources on the web.

All articles in open access journals which are published by Elsevier have undergone peer review and upon acceptance are immediately and permanently free for everyone to read and download.

Major source of free access to high impact, peer reviewed life sciences journals on the internet sponsored by Stanford University Libraries.

Old Farmer’s Almanac

Since 1792, The Old Farmer’s Almanac has spoken to all walks of life: planting charts for those who grow their own food; recipes for those who live in the kitchen; Moon and sunrise times for those who watch the skies; and forecasts for those who don’t like the question of weather left up in the air. 

Philippine E-Journals

The Philippine E-Journals (PEJ) is an online collection of academic publications of different higher education institutions and professional organizations. Its sophisticated database allows users to easily locate abstracts, full journal articles, and links to related research materials. 

Public Library of Science Journals

PLOS publishes suite of influential Open Access journals across all areas of science and medicine.

Wiley Open Access Journals 

All research articles published in Wiley Open Access journals are immediately freely available to read, download, and share.

Sage Open Journals 

SAGE Open is a peer-reviewed, “Gold” open access journal from SAGE that publishes original research and review articles in an interactive, open access format. Articles may span the full spectrum of the social and behavioral sciences and the humanities.

Index to Philippine Newspapers (UP Diliman Database)

The IPN is the University of the Philippines Main Library’s index to locally published newspapers. The newspaper index, which started in 1981, was originally a guide to eight (8) locally published newspapers, namely: Manila Bulletin; Philippine Daily Express; Manila Chronicle; Philippine Daily Inquirer; Philippine Star; Malaya; Manila Times; and Times Journal.

Index to Philippine Periodicals (UP Diliman Database) 

Web-based article indexing system based on the Index to Philippine Periodicals (IPP) which was originally produced as a printed research guide to periodical articles indexed by the Bibliography and Indexing Section of the UP Diliman University Library.

Open Access Repository  (UP Diliman Database)

A repository of digital surrogates of resources in print available at the Special Collections Section, and microfilms maintained by the Media Services of the Information Services and Instruction Section, of the Main Library, UP Diliman. Currently, the repository contains digitized Rare Periodicals.

Louisiana State University Digital Commons

The LSUDC repository offers scholarly archived materials that include articles, monographs, books, theses & dissertations, audio-visual presentations, working papers, technical reports, conference proceedings, special collections, data, and publicly funded research.

OhioLINK Electronic Theses & Dissertations Center

OhioLINK Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETD) contains over 58,000 theses and dissertations from students at 31 of Ohio’s world-renowned academic institutions. In 2012, Google thanked OhioLINK for making ETD open-access content easier to find by Google Scholar. Theses and dissertations from Ohio’s academic institutions were downloaded more than six million times from researchers around the globe in 2015.
